two people together

In April and May 2019 I travelled to Odin Teatret in Denmark to work with Igor and Moreno. The residency was to start research and development for a new performance project that had sex on stage’ as a starting point.

It was a complex time, understanding limits, exploring privacy and intimacy. I felt stretched as a dramaturg, a long way out of my comfort zone. Obvious questions like Who might this work be for?’ and How might it get made?’ were only the beginning.

In some of the evenings Igor, Moreno and I went to the studio and did some experiments with a camera, and a light attached to the camera. I’d been reading a lot about work from the 1990s with extreme close-up footage and was curious to get a feel for being as close to Igor and Moreno with the camera, as they were to each other.

This is an edit of those materials. It’s a film called two people together.

A film by Simon Ellis, Igor Urzelai & Moreno Solinas. With thanks to Rosa Cisneros, Sarah Ashkin & Katrina McPherson.
